Notion AI pricing today, plan by plan
Can you buy Notion AI on its own?
You cannot subscribe to Notion AI on its own. It comes through your Notion plan, and the higher paid tiers include it while the lower ones only let you try it, much as Activepieces is something you reach for separately rather than a bundled extra.

Notion AI is the assistant built into Notion's pages and databases. It writes, summarizes, searches across your workspace and fills in database fields.
Steady AI use means the Business seat, which this article prices at $20 per seat per month, against $10 for Plus, where AI is only a trial. There is no separate AI charge on top of the seat.
Every plan in one table, drawn from Notion's pricing page
AI is a reason to move up a tier, and the table shows how access is gated on each plan.
| Plan | Seat price in this article's math | Included AI |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited trial access only |
| Plus | $10 per seat per month | Limited trial access only |
| Business | $20 per seat per month | Included with the plan |
| Enterprise | Custom quote | Included with the plan |
Plan names as listed on notion.com/pricing. Seat prices are the ones used in the bill table below; usage limits omitted because they were not confirmed.

So a solo person who wants steady AI use ends up paying for a team-oriented tier. If all you need is an assistant, a chat subscription costs less than a $20 Business seat.
What counts as a Notion AI credit
Each time you ask the assistant to do something, Notion counts a use, whether that is a summary, a rewrite or a question about your pages.
Notion meters those uses in credits, the unit your monthly allowance is counted in. A simple question costs few credits, while an agent run that chains several steps costs far more.

When the allowance is limited, a few busy days can use it up. Check Notion's help documentation for the exact counting rules before you plan around any plan.
If you are running this arithmetic for your own team, see what the same workload costs on Activepieces.
Notion AI monthly cost by plan example
Before any add-ons, a freelance builder pays $0, $10 or $20 a month depending on plan, and a five-person team pays $0, $50 or $100.
| Workload | Plan | Seats | Guests | Add-ons | Monthly total | Upgrade-forcing limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | Free | 1 | up to 10 | None counted | $0 | 5 MB file uploads |
| Freelancer | Plus | 1 | up to 100 | None counted | $10 × 1 = $10 | 30-day page history |
| Freelancer | Business | 1 | up to 250 | None counted | $20 × 1 = $20 | Enterprise-only controls |
| Five-person team | Free | 5 | up to 10 | None counted | $0 | Shared-workspace caps |
| Five-person team | Plus | 5 | up to 100 | None counted | $10 × 5 = $50 | 30-day page history |
| Five-person team | Business | 5 | up to 250 | None counted | $20 × 5 = $100 | Enterprise-only controls |
On Free, a solo builder pays nothing, and clients can be guests without taking a paid seat. Plus costs $10 a month, so the real question is whether you need uploads larger than 5 MB.
Put five seats on Plus and the bill is $10 × 5 = $50 a month, or $50 × 12 = $600 a year. Business doubles that to $100 a month, or $1,200 a year. The gap widens with headcount, as these yearly totals show:

- Ten seats: $1,200 on Plus, $2,400 on Business.
- Twenty-five seats: $3,000 on Plus, $6,000 on Business.
- Fifty seats: $6,000 on Plus, $12,000 on Business.
Business costs exactly twice Plus at every size, so upgrade only for a specific need.
The value case for Notion AI
Notion AI earns its seat price when your team's work already lives in Notion and everyone uses the AI daily.
Why Notion AI is worth paying for
Start with the strongest point: the AI works on your own pages. It reads the project notes, meeting records and databases your team already keeps, so nobody exports text, pastes it into a separate chatbot and pastes the answer back.
There's also one invoice and one permission model, so the AI sees what each person is already allowed to see.
The case holds under these conditions:
- Most of your team's work lives in Notion pages.
- The whole team uses the AI daily, not just one enthusiast.
- One invoice matters more to you than the lowest per-seat price.
Notion AI break-even point per seat
The math is plain. Take the hours one person saves each month, multiply by what an hour of that person's time costs you, and compare the result to the AI cost for that one seat. If the first number is bigger, you're ahead.
Whether they use it or not, everyone on the plan is charged the seat price. A team where every seat saves time clears the bar much more easily than one where a few people do.
Why Notion AI fails light or solo users
Without a shared workspace to query, a solo user loses the main advantage. What remains is a general assistant, and cheaper subscriptions have that.
On a team, a light user pays the same seat price as a heavy one while saving little, so the cost of doing nothing, staying on a cheaper tool, is small. Skip Notion AI unless the conditions above describe you.
Hidden costs and limits Notion AI users hit
Outside the sticker price is where people get caught: AI billed for every seat, usage allowances that run out, and features that disappear when you downgrade. Each is cheap to check before you commit and expensive to find out afterward.
Per-seat charges across the whole workspace
The bill follows your headcount, not your usage, because AI comes with the seat. A team of ten where two people use it daily still pays for ten, or pays for the awkward arrangement of keeping the other eight off the feature.

The real cost is the plan upgrade, not a separate fee, since the AI features are gated to higher plans.
Before you price it, ask what happens to guests and occasional collaborators, because a guest's access to AI is a rule you should read in the docs, not assume.
Notion AI usage caps and limit behavior
Per member, each month, Notion allots an allowance of credits. Simple questions use little of it. Agent runs use far more per job.
If you are a light user you will never notice, but a team running agents all day can drain its allowance well before the month ends.
Find out in advance whether you're blocked at the limit or pushed to pay more, because those are very different bills.
What happens when you cancel Notion AI
Cancelling AI isn't the same as losing nothing. Anything built around it, such as automations or workflows your team now relies on, can stop working or lose capabilities when the plan drops.
Once written, the content stays in your pages, but the process that produced it may not.
Worth checking against a plan that does not meter every step: one credit covers a whole run on Activepieces.
Notion AI against the closest alternatives on price
Unless your team's pages already live in Notion, the alternatives give you more assistant for less. Only then is Notion AI worth its seat charge.
Price and limits side by side
To compare the options, read the table below, written in October 2026. It shows how each option charges, what you get bundled, and how much of your existing material the assistant can read.
| Per-seat price | Bundled vs extra | Usage limits | Access to your existing content | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Notion AI | Per person, gated to higher plans | Included in the Business seat, so the cost is a plan upgrade | Allowances vary by plan | Pages and databases inside Notion |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | Per person | Add-on to a Microsoft 365 licence | Fair-use caps vary by app | Documents, email and files in Microsoft 365 |
| Gemini in Google Workspace | Per person, tied to Workspace tier | Depends on your Workspace plan | Caps vary by plan | Gmail, Docs and Drive |
| A standalone assistant | One subscription per user | Separate product | Message limits by tier | Only what you paste or upload |
Confirm each vendor's current page before you commit, because prices change often.
Which one fits which kind of team
If your team writes, plans and tracks work in Notion, Notion AI gives real value, because the assistant reads the same pages everyone edits.
A company running on Word, Excel and Outlook should price Microsoft 365 Copilot first, and a Gmail-and-Drive shop should price Gemini first, for the same reason.
For a solo builder, or a team that touches the assistant a few times a week, a standalone subscription usually does better. You paste in what you need and skip the per-seat multiplier.
That leaves a simple test before you buy: count who'll use it daily, and where their content lives.
Automating around Notion with Activepieces
If your team's work lives in Notion but your tasks cross into other apps, Activepieces covers the gap Notion AI leaves.
It doesn't answer the pricing question, but it connects Notion to the rest of your apps through 746 integrations, a count taken from its open source monorepo.
What Notion's built-in automation covers
Inside Notion, the built-in automation does its job well. A database can update a status, assign a person or create a page when something changes, and a button can run a set of those steps on demand.
Notion AI then summarizes, drafts and answers questions over the pages your team already keeps there.
The limit is the edge of the workspace. The moment a job starts in your invoicing tool, a form, a chat channel or a customer inbox, Notion's own automation has less to work with.
Paying for more AI seats doesn't fix that, because the problem is moving data between apps, not writing better text.
What a workflow tool adds
Think of Activepieces as a workflow builder with an MIT-licensed core.
You pick an event in one app, such as a new form response, and chain it to actions in others, such as adding a row to a Notion database and posting a message to your team. Roughly 60% of its integrations are community-contributed.
Each of these chains is called a flow, and each app connection is called a piece.
That makes it the plumbing around Notion. It carries the data in and out, and Notion AI keeps doing the reading and writing once the data lands.
The two don't compete. One builder can use both, and a solo builder who only needs the plumbing can skip the AI seat entirely.
The Activepieces pricing page lists 1 credit per flow run however many steps it has, so the form-to-Notion-row-to-chat-message chain above costs one credit, where Zapier's pricing page bills the same chain per task and Make's per module.

The free plan carries 1,000 credits a month, unlimited flows and up to 5 users. That covers a light automation, though it leaves open the question of who needs a Notion AI seat.
Notion AI usage audit before payment
Because the smaller bill only holds if you buy for the right people, spend a week checking who would actually use Notion AI before you pay for anyone.
Here's the order to work in:
- Count the seats that would really use AI, not the seats that exist.
- Log a week of the tasks those people would hand to it.
- Trial it on those tasks.
- Run the same tasks through one cheaper alternative.
- Pick the plan that covers only the people who passed the test.
- Set a date to review the decision.
Count real Notion AI users and tasks
Start with a list of names, not a headcount. Next to each name, write down whether they work in shared pages every day. Then ask each of them to jot down every moment they wished something would summarize, draft, or search for them.
When a task happens inside Notion, it favors Notion AI. Tasks that happen in other tools, or only now and then, point toward a cheaper alternative.
Trial Notion AI before you commit
Run your logged tasks through the trial, using real pages rather than demo content. Then run the same tasks through one alternative, and note which result you'd actually send to a colleague.
If most of the team reaches for it daily on shared pages, the price makes sense. If only a few do, you've found your seat count, and it's smaller than the team.
Put the review on the calendar before you enter a card number. On that date, check who used it and for what, then drop any seat that sat idle.
Frequently asked questions
Is Notion AI free on the free plan?
Only as a limited trial, not as a working tool. Notion has offered free-plan users a capped sample of AI responses, and once it runs out you're asked to pay.
Can I add Notion AI to only some members?
Not as a separate purchase, because AI comes with the plan seat rather than as its own line item. The question to settle before you spend anything is how many people need to sit on the Business plan.
Because the seat price applies to everyone on that plan, idle seats cost the most. Check how your workspace handles mixed plans and guests, and drop anyone who doesn't need the AI.
Does Notion AI cost less when billed annually?
Usually, yes. Notion discounts annual billing on its plans, and the AI included in them has generally followed that pattern.
The catch is commitment: if you're still unsure anyone will use it, paying monthly for a while costs a little more but lets you walk away cleanly.
Can Notion AI be cancelled without losing my pages?
Yes. Your pages, databases and anything the AI wrote into them are ordinary Notion content, and they stay when the AI stops. What you lose is the ability to run new AI actions.
Is Notion AI cheaper than ChatGPT for a small team?
Not on price alone, and not if people would use it only now and then. A standalone chat subscription covers general questions anywhere.
Notion AI earns its cost only when the work already lives in your shared pages. Confirm current prices and plan terms in Notion's help center before you decide.
